The current global pandemic caused by COVID-19 has impacted people around the world and has caused many industries to come to a halt due to the risks of transmission. One reason is the highly contagious nature of the virus particles. The three primary routes of coronavirus transmission are droplets from a cough or sneeze, airborne particles, and touching a surface with infected particles. Factories, hospitals, and other public spaces are considering a variety of strategies to mitigate the spread of airborne diseases as we return to normal daily routines. The COVID-19 crisis is placing unprecedented demands on HVAC systems to help keep people and workers safe, e.g., hospital environments require additional negatively pressurized isolation rooms. In this seminar, speaker will introduce simulation model and their boundary conditions. He will demonstrate how the air flow influences the droplets (coughing or sneezing) under different HVAC configurations. The simulations also show how droplets travel from different persons under gentle, light and moderate wind, with and without a mask.
