CAMBS - DELIVERING THE PROMISE OF THE INTERNET OF THINGS
The Internet of Things (IoT) is widely tipped to be the next major growth area in our increasingly connected world. Rather than the Internet being just about person-to-person communications, the IoT will enable a raft of connected devices to share information, be remotely controlled or even allow us to check the wellbeing of our loved ones, allowing vulnerable people to stay in their own homes for longer.

The Internet of Things has certainly been gaining momentum with the bulk of media attention focused on consumer products such as connected thermostats and smart fridges. This talk will discuss the underpinning networking and computing technologies that will be used to deliver applications that will drive benefit in transport, logistics and infrastructure.

The talk will be given by Paul Beastall who is the Director of Technology Strategy for Wireless and Digital Services at Cambridge Consultants at the Science park in Cambridge.
Paul has 20 years' experience in wireless and fixed broadband networking, from developing prototype millimetre-wave radio systems through to leading global presales and market development activities. Unusually, he has worked for both operators and product development organisations, typically working at the interface between engineering and commercial functions.  Most of his work has focused on the impact of technology changes on users, business cases or regulation.

Paul was lead technical consultant on the Home Office Emergency Services Mobile Communications Programme to replace the current mobile services for police, fire and ambulance users with a single, high availability, cost-effective service. Paul led the team responsible for system architecture, security and technical industry engagement, delivering an architecture that meets central government and user requirements.
