This talk is about the journey of an invention from an academic environment to become a product which is being adopted by the largest energy companies on the planet.   Corrosion has a big impact in many sectors and it's estimated that it costs about 3% of the world's GDP every year.  Manufacturing industries such as power, chemicals and oil & gas spend hundreds of billions of dollars every year to control and mitigate this issue.  CorrosionRADAR was born to address this issue through sensing and predictive analytics and is on the path to make a global impact on pipeline corrosion through its technology.  In this talk, entrepreneurial experiences in academia through to product launch will be shared within the context of looking at industrial corrosion sensing and predictive analytics.
The speaker will be Dr Prafull Sharma who is a Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer for CorrosionRADAR Ltd which is pioneering innovative corrosion monitoring technologies using Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).  He invented Electro-Magnetic Guided Radar (EMGR) for corrosion monitoring which is gaining global traction addressing a big issue for the industry.  Prior to his current role, Prafull worked for General Electric R&D where he developed several sensing and automation technologies. Prafull obtained his PhD from Cranfield University UK.  He has over fifteen years experience in industrial automation and sensing technology development particularly for the Energy, Aviation and Chemical industry.  He is also credited with over fifteen international patents and innovations.
