Urban Air Mobility - Hype or Hope

The Aerospace Technical Network is linking up with Aerospace, Defence, Security and Space (ADS) to hold a joint webinar discussing an emerging and very popular Urban Air Mobility (UAM) industry.

As a new branch of the aviation industry, the UAM industry makes a lot of promises to all stakeholders, yet it is imperative to understand all the pros and cons of what the new technology can offer and be able to differentiate between the promises made and the real potential outcomes.

The webinar will provide a general introduction to UAM, will cover a UK perspective of how we see the sector developing as well as conclude with an open debate on the challenges that need to be addressed to realise market potential.

Our guest speaker is Sameer Savani, whose role as Head of Innovation and Engineering cuts across the aerospace, defence, security and space industries, and ranges from informing policy, through to engaging ADS’s 1000+ members on a variety of Innovation and Engineering subjects. Sameer supports and facilitates numerous industry groups to drive forward the innovation and engineering agendas.

Sameer graduated with a first in Physics from UCL. Following five years as a scientist within the UK MOD, he moved to the Aerospace and Defence Knowledge Transfer Network to develop the first National Aerospace Technology Strategy – R&D roadmaps that today represent some £4bn joint industry-Government investment in technology. In August 2010, Sameer joined ADS – the UK’s trade organisation advancing the UK Aerospace, Defence, Security and Space industries – where he now leads a number of areas including Digitalisation, Urban Air Mobility, Environment and Safety, and also leads the trade body’s engagement with the fast-growing Space sector.

During the world-renowned Farnborough Airshow, Sameer is a lead for Futures Day (the industry’s single largest STEM outreach activity), the Innovation Zone (dedicated exhibition of the UK’s R&T sector), the recently launched Aerospace 4.0 exhibit to showcase the future of manufacturing, and the upcoming UAM Zone to showcase the future of flight.
