What is Lightning Protection?
- Lightning strike is an unpredictable natural phenomenon which could be hazardous to people, property and electrical systems.
- Countries close to the Equator which includes Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia has a higher risk of lightning strikes.
- An understanding of lightning protection system is paramount to safeguard lives, protect our property and our ever sensitive electrical and electronic equipment.
- Talk will include overview of the fundamentals of lightning protection as per MS IEC 62305  which is an adoption of IEC 62305 (2007) which is a mandatory standard in Malaysia.
- Talk will have four topics namely:

   1. Lightning & Lightning Protection
   2. Lighting Risk Assessment
   3. Physical Damages to Structures & Life Hazard
   4. Electrical & Electronic Systems within Structures
- This talk will be presented by Ir. Dr. Siow Chun Lim who is currently a Senior Lecturer at Multimedia University where he also serves as the Chair of Centre for Electric Energy and Automation (CEEA), Secretary/Treasurer of the Electrical Engineering Technical Divistion (EETD) and the Honorary Secretary/Treasurer of the National Working Group of ASEAN Engineering Inspectorate (Electrical Installation).
