Martin Butterworth aided and abetted by James Checkley, Will and Sarah were at the Howard of Effingham School in Leatherhead on 15th March. The aim of the event was to give young students (Y8-11 and Y12-13) a connection between job reality and subject study - to help them understand the relevance of selection of subjects for a future avenue of career.
Specifically our stand was to widen the students ideas of what engineering is, does and means. To provide some guide as to the importance of selecting certain subjects and how the overlap has increased between other areas such as medical, computing, communications etc.
Thanks go to IET, NETmc, and SSTL for Will and his time, and James and his company and Martin at NETmc.
The IET encourage interaction with Schools and Colleges for STEM subjects as well as co-ventures with other institutions. We regularly co-operate with IMechE, ICE, BCS and RAeS.
