Women in engineering Wikithon at the Wellcome Library, London 15 June 2017

Wellcome Library and the IET are joining forces to host a Women Engineers Wikithon. Join us to celebrate the women engineers that deserve a more prominent place in the online historical record. You'll hear inspirational talks on some women from the history of engineering, then develop your digital skills and learn how to edit Wikipedia in order to harness the power of the web for public engagement. There’ll also be the opportunity to see some interesting archive materials and to explore the Wellcome Collection’s Electricity: The Spark of Life exhibition.

Experienced Wikipedia editors and complete beginners are both welcome to attend - we'll provide training for anyone new to editing. If you’ve spotted an article that needs improving, bring along your queries and we’ll see what we can do to help!

How do I prepare?

  • Create a Wikipedia account (look at the top right any Wikipedia page for the link). You don't need to do anything else, but it'll speed things up on the day if you've already signed up for an account.

  • Think about what you would like to edit about - you can even prepare some materials to bring with you on the day (to help with verifiability).
