Speaker request to Robotics and Mechatronics TPN

I’m David James, Chair of the IET Sussex Local Network. In Sussex we run a programme of talks on a variety of engineering and technology topics and in our 2018/19 programme we would like to include a talk on Industrial Robotics.

The media is fond of showing video clips of robots spot welding or spray painting, but most articles these days concern autonomous devices and machine learning. The unsung heroes seem to be industrial robots in their various forms. As with most areas of engineering, the technology associated with robotics will have moved forwards in leaps and bounds over the past decade. Our members are interested in today’s industrial robotics technologies and where it is heading.

Currently we've scheduled the talk for 5th February 2019 at the Hawth Theatre in Crawley. We meet from 6:45 for refreshments and a chat, with the talk starting at 7:30 for 45-60 minutes, followed by questions. Travel expenses are available.

Are you able to suggest anyone, within a reasonable distance of Crawley, who might be able to give such a talk and with whom you could put me in touch?

  • Perhaps put in a request to Rich Walker at Shadow Robotics <www.shadowrobot.com/>. You will get an interesting talk about their dextorous hand.
