NEW BOOK! Semiconductor Lasers and Diode-based Light Sources for Biophotonics

A new book is available in The IET Book Series on e-Health TechnologiesSemiconductor Lasers and Diode-based Light Sources for Biophotonics edited by Dr. Peter E. Andersen and Prof. Paul Michael is available now. Publication date: December 2018; ISBN: 978-1-78561-272-5

.
Description: Semiconductor lasers are small, reliable, low cost, high-performance and user-friendly optical devices which make them highly suitable for a variety of biomedical applications. This edited book gathers experts in the field to cover the fundamentals and technology advances of semiconductor lasers and diode-based lasers with a focus on their applications in medical optics and biophotonics including edge-emitting semiconductor lasers and light emitting diodes, Q-switched and mode-locked lasers, quantum cascade lasers, semiconductor disk lasers, near-infrared spectroscopy systems for biomedical applications, bio-medical Raman spectroscopy, nonlinear imaging and optical coherence tomography.

Editors:
  • Peter E. Andersen is a Senior Scientist at the Technical University of Denmark, where he leads research in biomedical optics. He has more than 20 years of research experience with light sources for biomedical optics, optical coherence tomography, and nonlinear microscopy. He has coordinated several European research programmes and has authored or co-authored more than 100 scientific publications in the above-mentioned fields. He is an editorial board member of the Journal of Biomedical Optics and the Journal of Biophotonics

  • Paul Michael Petersen is a Professor at the Technical University of Denmark. He has more than 25 years of research experience in new diode light sources, and has headed several collaborative, large-scale research projects. From 2002 until 2012 he was appointed adjunct professor in Optics at the Niels Bohr Institute, Copenhagen University. He has authored more than 150 international scientific publications and holds 15 patents.

Book readership: A must-read for researchers, engineers, and scientists with a focus on semiconductor and laser science, applied optics and electronics, with applications in medical optics, medical imaging or biophotonics.
