Request for info: Autonomous Systems

The Safety Critical Systems Club has initiated a Working Group on the Safety of Automomous Systems (see scsc.org.uk/groups.html with the Draft Vision:

To produce clear guidance on how autonomous systems and autonomy technologies should be managed in a safety related context, in a way that reflects emerging best practice.

At the inaugural meeting, we discussed whether there were other Groups working in this area, so that we could pool our efforts, and not duplicate.  In the brainstorming, no other Groups were identified...

Are any members of this TPN aware of any other activity that may be related to this vision?

Clearly this WG's work will dovetail into activities such as DO-178, ISO 26262, IEC 61508 and the various MISRA works (all are well represented in the SCSC WG) - but is there anything else that we should consider (and/or liaise with and/or take part in)?

Thanks

  • Hi Andrew, thanks for this post and are there any of our Safety members able to assist.  The Transport Sector may have some information that can assist.
  • An update, after the first couple of meetings:
    1. The objective of the Group remains to produce pan-industry guidance

    • Verification and validation seem to be the biggest challenge, especially in a machine-learning context

    • A spin-off sub-group is going top look at the Ethics aspects

    • Input has been received from aerospace (civil & military), defence, marine/martime, space, medical, industrial and automotive

The next meeting will take place at the end of June or early July (date being finalised) in York
