Engineer Registration is coming to Victoria

The Victorian Government will soon be introducing a state-wide mandatory registration system for engineers.

It seems the details are still being drafted, and the scheme will be rolled out progressively.

The intention of this thread is to share information as it becomes available.

    Thanks Evan for this,

Just sharing a FAQ recently published by the VIC government regarding the Engineers Registration Bill 2018:

    Engineers Registration Bill 2018
    https://www.dtf.vic.gov.au/sites/default/files/2018-05/FAQs%20for%20the%20engineers%20registration%20scheme.pdf

Some interesting points from the document:

From point 2.1: You will need to be registered if you provide 'professional engineering services' and these services fall within one of the five areas of engineering: civil, structural, fire safety, electrical or mechanical engineering.

From point 2.2: 'Professional engineering services' is defined to mean an engineering service that requires, or that is based on, the application of engineering principles and data. to a design relating to engineering; or to a construction, production, operation or maintenance activity relating to engineering.

From point 2.6: It is expected that the scheme will establish a requirement for 150 hours of CPD over three years.

    Best regards

    Sashi

'The scheme is expected to commence from mid-2019 using a staged registration process. It is envisaged the full scheme will be implemented by mid-2022. The detailed schedule for implementation will be included in the transitional regulations.'
