Blue plaques for engineers

In October 2012 I put a list of Plaques that have been erected to comemerate engineers in the UK. Since then many members have joined the community who are not UK based.

If you are not in the UK, does such a scheme exist in your Country?

Thanks in advance

John

  • Aren't blue placques limited to London?  I would have expected most engineers to have made their achievements away from London, both because of the coalfields being elsewhere and to escape from the London bureaucracy.
  • There are many plaques schems, English Heritage run the London Scheme, they did look at operating a country wide scheme but cost & staff resource made this impractical. They are also scaling back the london scheme due to bugets.

If you look in the files section of this community there is a spread sheet listing the various plaques we know off, together with the organisations that erected them.

If you know of any others please let me know and I will add them to the spreadsheet.

The History of Technology Network is working to develope an IET scheme that can be used indicate sites where Engineers & Technologists Lived & Worked.

    Regards

    John
