Paris bans old polluting diesel cars

With the recent issues with cities breaching annual air pollution limits in January and red alerts being given, will Paris achieve better results by stepping up its war on air pollution with a complete ban on diesel cars registered before December 2000?

Do not mix politics with engineering.

My 1999 Diesel car has just passed its technical control with very low diesel emmissions. however I am group 5 and banned from driving in Paris today.

This is an action by the Socialist mayor who wants to be president.

She wants cars banned in Paris.

New SUVs are more poluting than well kept  Diesels.

She has just allowed wood burning in paris chimneys which is the main cause of the pollution.

Another cause is pollution is from Germany which burns fossil fuels after banning nuclear power.

Most Paris busses and city transport is Diesel, but not banned.

Paris is suffering commercialy shops & businesses are closing as pe ople can not drive to them.

Paris is the centre of the iIe de France, without I d F Paris will not survive.

She has no park and ride, no facilities for I d F visitors for ladministration or CPD visits.

This week I took my daughter to the station, however she reduced the station car park exits to one lane.

Paris is caos thanks to politics with no forethought and no engineering.

Her Party has closed a nuclear reactor, so more fossil fuel will have to be burned.

Old Diesel cars are less polluting than new big engine petrol cars (pollution per KM per littre consumed)

She wants all electric cars asap.

Whe re does the electricity come from, we are on restricted electricity today.

Please avoid politics on an engineering blog.

    Lynsay,

In January, your question seemed to be a jab at Paris Ecologist politics.

We are in a quickly changing environment, - we ae now begining to understand the ecological changes and the stalwarts refute our observations.

    since your posting,

London has said it will tax all Diesel cars £16.5 per day for access.
    Did you know that the most poluted Diesel effluent environment is on the sun decks of luxury cruise liners;

Radio 4 stated that the UK will ban all Diesel cars ASAP

It also stated that the health problem is carbon nono-particles.

French researchers have tested non reacting gold nano particles on test patients to confirm this theory.

I studied materials 20 years ago, the idea or the word nano- technology did not exist.

Fact : Diesel is a petrol waste product, it was burnt in cement production furnaces.

I worked for a leading Diesel Engine manufacturer, implanting Diesel power plant world wide.

We were concerned about macro carbon particles and used the (Dyson) centrafuge type particle extractor to remove these pollutants from the chimneys.

England is considering compensating all owers of Diesel vehiules inorder to remove them from circulation.

Europe is now proposing the same.

What will the UK do if it leaves Europe and changes Government.

The UK could be the only Diesel polluting country in Europe.
