  • Next week, on 14 March, we have a talk from UWE alumnus Steve Waldron about how the ever greater levels of autonomy and connectedness of motor vehicles are posing challenges for functional safety and cyber security.  He will explain how standards like ISO 26262 can be applied to try to overcome these problems.

Jonathan Aylen from the Newcomen Society presents a lively paper using the history of technology to look at the organisation of R&D. Starting with the “rocket science” behind the Bristol Bloodhound Mark 2 guided missile, he shows how the guidance system was developed, prompting a major switch from analogue to digital control, and looks at how this technology was successfully transferred from a military application into civil industry.
