On Friday 23 July organisations across the UK are opening their doors (physically or virtually) to young children and their parents as we welcome back the sixth Engineering Open House Day to inspire tomorrow’s engineers.2021 marks the IET’s 150th anniversary and we want to make Engineering Open House Day the biggest and most successful event yet – with even more events run by innovative companies in the UK and internationally.

With schools currently closed and exams cancelled this summer, we feel it is even more important than ever to give children and their families a fun and exciting event that gives them an insight into what careers in engineering and technology can offer.

Amazon, Tower Bridge, Royal Mail, Dumfries House, EDF, Armagh Observatory and Planetarium and BBC Birmingham are a few of the companies who have previously held exciting and educational demonstrations, tours and talks to over 5,000 children across the UK.

The first Friday of the UK summer holiday will also see the IET’s flagship venue – Savoy Place – being taken-over by inspiring events and budding engineers.

Engineering Open House Day is one of several initiatives that make up the IET’s Engineer a Better World Campaign.

Whether children are into sports, music, fashion, flying, healthcare, or improving our climate, the campaign wants children – and their parents – to understand that there is a place in engineering and technology for them.

If you would like to find out more about the events being held for Engineering Open House Day 2021, please visit the IET Engineering a Better World website or if you have a suggestion for a great company for us to approach, please email openhouse@theiet.org or pop it in the comments below (log in required).
