We know that 2020 was a challenging year for many of us, and whilst early 2021 may feel like more of the same we can see the glimmer of hope for the future in the vaccine roll outs and with brighter days ahead it may be time to start thinking about the future.January is often a time for new beginnings, and as we head into a new year people will start to think about new years’ resolutions, or plans for the year ahead.  Whether you're just starting out with professional registration and not sure what to do, or are a more seasoned career professional who is maintaining a broad engineering knowledge, the IET can support your development.

Your plans may have changed from those set in 2020 and you may want to consider consolidating or updating your CV having been furloughed, or may be seeking to focus on the positive with some future career goals – whatever your plans are  we hope to keep you motivated with Career Manager, our online professional development system.

Recently relaunched at the end of last year, Career Manager provides a platform on which you can plan and record your CPD, create a professional profile that can act as a CV, and the opportunity to develop competences and apply for professional registration with the IET.

The new system offers a new mobile responsive interface for use on tablets or other mobile devices, with a more modern look and feel and a simplified interface which makes now the perfect time to start using it.

For the first time all CPD planning and recording is in one place, so if you used the old version of Career Manager your previously logged CPD activities will already be incorporated, and if you are a new user you can simply log in and start planning and recording your CPD.

If you’re stuck on where to start, then a list of  learning and development resources is available on our website covering both free and low cost options to fit your requirements or to give you inspiration. From our events, training courses and knowledge services, through to our valued and experienced volunteers we can provide any support or guidance you need with your development.

If you’re looking for support, or want more pointers on where to get started, you can contact us at: profdev@theiet.org or why not ask your question in our Careers forum where you can find inspiration, ideas and get feedback from other online community members.
