Mobile Responsive Design

Hands up all those who own a smartphone or a tablet? How much time do you spend on it per day? Quite a lot? Yes me too…! blush

Given that the world is now more mobile than ever, your experience in our online community should be just as good while you’re sitting on a train and scanning through the events list on your smartphone or sitting on the sofa reading the discussion forum with your tablet, as when you’re sitting at your desk and using a laptop or desktop computer.

Over the course of this week 5th – 9th December we’ll be retiring the mobile optimised template for our online community and introducing a ‘responsive’ design. What’s the difference between ‘optimised’ and ‘responsive’? Well, mobile optimised is a separate secondary design template whereas ‘responsive’ is simply one template that adapts and adjusts itself to the best fit for the size of the screen you’re viewing it on. Very clever indeed!

So, watch out for our new mobile responsive design over the next few days and as always, let us know if something isn’t as it should be or if you have any feedback.

If you prefer to give your feedback privately, please feel free to email us at community-online@theiet.org instead.
