The Top 5 Blogs On The IET Communities Platform

In the second of my posts to mark the end of the 2015-16 IET Communities Session, I am looking at the top five blogs on the platform since October 2015.

Blogging is a key part of the IET’s online communities’ platform and we encourage anyone with views on engineering and technology to either blog within the groups or set up their own site wide blog.
For the purposes of this list we have only selected site wide blogs. There are some other excellent blogs within the groups such as this Cyber Security blog but they have not been included in this list.
The other things to note for this list is that we are not including any blogs where there have been no posts in the last 12 months and the criteria for the ranking was based on page views of the blog for the last 12 months.

So without further ado here are the top 5 in reverse order:
5 - Up the Sharp End
If you like a bit of humour with your engineering insights then Ian Lang's blog is the one for you. Ian takes an irreverent look at engineering and technology and posts various cartoons as well. As he says in his blog summary ‘Prepare for strangeness’.
4 - The Cyber Lens
With a background in interacting with Security Systems and Cyber Platforms, Rimesh Patel uses his blog to offer views on industries and their use of different and trending technologies. Rimesh posts regularly on issues around cyber security with recent subjects including TCP/IP networks, cyber ecosystems and the InfoSec Exhibition.
3 – Society Insights
This blog attempts to summarise some of the interesting areas that IET Local Networks discuss at their events. In particular it focuses on those issues that will have an impact on our everyday lives now and in the future. Recent examples of subjects included are drones, hybrid aircraft, the Internet of Things, mental health, wearable technology and flooding.
2 – Community Platform News
It’s this blog! With regular posts about how to get the best out of this platform and new functionality it seems many of you use this blog. It has taken you through the launch of a new look and has provided updates on improvements like the user badges.
1 – The IET Blog
In first place is the IET’s corporate blog. So no surprises there really as there is a regular flow of interesting content about the IET but also about developments in engineering and technology in general. Naomi Climer (our IET President until tomorrow!) has been a persistent contributor to this blog and there have also been a number guest posts from other IET Trustees.
So that’s the top 5 blogs on this platform. I hope you enjoyed the list and have learnt a little bit more about the content on this site.
And remember, if you have something to say and can commit to posting fairly regularly do contact us and we can take you through the steps for starting your own blog on this site.
