In 2012, I had the opportunity to research emerging strategic changes within the Chip Industry. At the time, ARM was the new entrant gaining mass adoption based off their chipset design - which compared to Intel was better at energy saving during operational tasks, where, Intel remained strong in its ability to provide solid computing power.

Since then, there have been many new Chip Set entrants into the market that have used  economies of scale to provide both, low power consumption rate and strong computing power.  As we move into the world of SMART devices, the interactions between chipset and its OS’s will be effected and so it is of no surprise that security was seen less of a priority than chipset performance i.e. moores law.

So, the Intel Chip Set limitation gaining moment today was to be expected as the limitations of traditional Chipset Design Vs SMART Chip Set Design designs were already known. Just like the Wifi Krack vulnerability seen a few months back, vendor firmware or patch updates will be critical to overcome the chip set limitation.

A brief summary can be seen in my Digital Signal Processing June 2015 blog entry here.

  • Good comment, i have also envisage that we are just revisiting a technological evolutionary cycle rather that a "Flaw". But we are here, we would move past it, human race....!!!
