Focusing on the theme of field based technologies; I took opportunity to attend a discussion on the future challenges of space exploration by The Royal Television Society, IET and Akamai who together hosted the discussion with Tim Peak. The discussion was led by Tim Davie from the BBC.

Tim Peake gave a fascinating account of his time in space. Delivering the cosmic classroom was just one memorable achievement for him, he talked about life in the space station, exercising regime and what might be in store for the future of space travel. This was a thrilling event and a great opportunity to hear him talk about his journey into space. He discussed how the current space stations may be well suited for commercial adaptation and by 2025 commercial travel will be one step closer.

When asked, Tim confirmed there was no Netflix in space, however, bandwidth was available to work on scientific experiments, such as gathering data on how to grow protein crystals and their use in the pharmaceutical industry. So whilst we are gearing up to 5G networks, the effects of space station explorations may already be fuelling how consumers might receive 6G networks (ET would be pleased).

Speaking with Matthew Hancock, Minister of State for Digital and Culture, I specifically asked how important is cyber security to businesses based in the UK and London itself ? To which he replied cyber security is now mission critical. We then talked about how understanding technology trends will be key for all businesses to better secure themselves.
