500 Exhibitors and 600 hundred speakers, all under one roof. The CloudExpo event taking place at the world class Excel Exhibition Center in London this week is full of revelations. The arena is broken into 4 ontologies; Cloud Security, Big Data, Smart IOT London and Data Center World. Vendors held their traditional stands and in addition, seated floor space was allocated for speakers to perform open style high octane seminars.

Visitors had the choice to attend conferences on super fuelled scheduled topics within dedicated theatres. There were multiple seminars, talks and conferences all taking place at the same time. Including multiple live internet streams. A complete delight covering all flavours of cloud enabled technologies, from securing drones, network posture for cloud hacking, big data projects and security of IoT.

Almost like being in a candy store, you wanted a bit of everything but didn’t know where to go - Seeing everyone holding out the event schedules trying to find their bearings for the next session and how to get there was a familiar sight. Many topics were being reviewed, a common theme across all vendors, speakers and specialists were;

1. If your organisation is dependent on a framework approach only for cloud security then you are doing it wrong i.e. know your core transactions first then the framework will follow.

2. Ransomware was another hot topic and a common theme on its mitigation was taking live backups of your organisations data using vendor solutions, so if it does happen, then you have real time data backups to use instead.

3. Other themes for discussion were on Open-API's, containers, how agile projects deliver faster RoI on cloud projects, technical security ( Network & EndPoint ) and policy enforcement.

There were also a few carrier grade telecom giants present, which was well understood already as reviewed in my last post where we are seeing the integration of telecoms and cloud providers combine to provide the much anticipated immersive services. If there was ever an All-In-One event taking place this would be it. The event even had Start-up accelerators present keen to make available their services for those looking to future proof their Urban and Smart IoT ideas.

This was a quality event where buzz words were certainly not the norm. All unique value add topics were up for discussion, meaning all different skill sets found a place at this event.

Details of this high paced quality event can be found here.

  • Hi Rimesh, I was there on the Wednesday only, but more interested in the Big Data World, though I did go to a couple of cloud expo presentations (not cloud security which was a separate event)  and one smart IoT presentation. There was a dedicated 'theatre' for software defined networks in cloud expo, that definitely had some big telecom names.
